The Irish Marching Band is an important part of the spirit at Central Catholic High School. The band proudly provides quality entertainment and spirit promotion at CCHS functions and athletic events. In addition to performing in the stands and during halftime at all varsity football games, the Irish Marching Band has performed at the University of Toledo “Band Day”, the Mohawk “Warrior Fest” as well as many other events. The band takes a trip every 2 years, alternating between a major trip (such as New York or Florida) and a minor trip (such as Cincinnati or Toronto.) The year begins with pre-camp at school for a week, then a week away at band camp. Students have a great time at camp, all while learning drill and music for the upcoming season.
The CCHS Concert Band performs approximately three concerts per year including the annual Sounds of Christmas concert, the Winter Concert in preparation for band contests, and at the Festival of the Lively Arts. The concert band plays traditional band music as well as more recent music such as selections from recent movies. Members of the CCHS Concert Band also have the option of performing at the annual Ohio Music Education Association’s “Solo and Ensemble” contest as well as in the OMEA District 1 Honors Band.
The IRISH Pep Band performs at most of the boys varsity home basketball games, as well as at selected girl’s varsity home basketball games. Songs are taken mostly from the marching band stand tunes, but new music is occasionally added.
The Pit Orchestra plays for the annual CCHS spring musical. Selected students play along side professional musicians in the “pit” at the Valentine Theater. Past musicals include Hello Dolly, Oklahoma, Bye Bye Birdie and Fiddler on the Roof.
The Beginning Band is for students who wish to learn an instrument. After they complete the beginning band course, they are sufficiently prepared to participate in the marching, concert and pep bands.
